How to Pack with Food Allergies According to a Travel Agency Owner.
As many of you know, our family is living our best life with food allergies for over 2 decades now. And traveling all over the USA and World with multiple, anaphylactic food allergies.
This is how we pack and what we actually bring with us. Specifically, these travel tips will save you time, money & stress.
Packing Tips for Traveling with Food Allergies
As the owner of a travel agency, we are ready to travel at a moment’s notice. And if you have life threatening food allergies, it’s always safest to be prepared ahead of time. Therefore, you can easily keep your onboard bag packed & ready to go! No matter how you’re traveling (plane, train, car, etc…), your Onboard Bag will significantly help you have a more pleasant trip.
Packing Tip #1: Make your Onboard Bag!
Here’s what we keep in our Onboard Bag & some suggestions. Of course, change this up for your specific needs.
- The Bag itself: LOVEVOOK Carryon Backpack. Airline approved, fits under airplane seat. SO many great things about this bag! It holds a laptop (& has antilock zipper), multiple pockets to make finding things easy & less than $40 at Amazon.
This is the classiest looking and roomiest backpack that I have found in this price range. I bought the black with gold zippers. I packed a weeks’ worth of clothes in this for a trip and even fit two pairs of shoes the backpack is lightweight but still amazing quality. The zippers are designed well, and I had zero problems with them getting stuck… I will keep this for a long time as it is built to last. If you’re on the fence, just get one. You won’t regret it. I recommend watching some of these video reviews of the product. They really showcase this backpack beautifully and honestly.” – Kimberly G. reviewer from USA.
- Add: Your EpiPen, Benadryl, Inhaler, your allergy protocol meds. Often, we put our allergy medications in an EpiPen Medical Carrying Case. Especially crucial for keeping our epinephrine in a temperature protecting case. This case makes it very apparent to find all of our life-saving meds quickly. As well as putting your doctor signed allergy letter/protocols in a handy spot.
- Travel size face lotion, moisturizer, makeup, sunscreen, contact lens, tissues, face wipes, 3.4 oz or less toothpaste, toothbrush, floss, lip-gloss, hand sanitizer, and comb.
- As usual, never try a new product away from home/on a plane. Use the brands you use regularly. As a less-expense option, pack in travel size leakproof containers instead of purchasing the more expensive smaller sized items. Travel Bottles that we use & are TSA approved, 3 oz, BPA-free & leakproof.
- Your Food Allergy-friendly Clean Bag: put antibacterial wipes, disposable latex-free gloves, airline/rental car seat cover & throw away bags in 1 place for quick access. Along with a hygienic, comfy airline approved seat cover from NiceSeats.

How to Pack with Food Allergies According to a Travel Agency Owner Tip #3: Food
YUM! The food allergy snacks & food section. As always, substitute for your #foodallergies
Have a on arrival meal made in your backpack or regular cooler.
Another tip: pack some pasta in your bag for a quick dinner. LOTS of food allergy-friendly recipes here.
Snacks we suggest:
- @YumEarth lollipops/hard candies, gummies (age appropriate) – especially good for take-off & landings
- @MadeGood granola bars, Giggles candies
- @BetterBatterFlour cupcakes & cookies. Many trips, we make a few weeks ahead & freeze, then have ready for our travels!
- Fruit & Veggies like apples, oranges, carrot & celery sticks
- Refillable Brita Water bottles with filtering straw, BPA-free. Have each person chose a special color. Then, you’ll never have to guess whose water bottle is on the table!
Vacation Safely from a Travel Agency Owner
Always a big proponent of safety especially when traveling away from home. We use & recommend upgraded door locks/alarms. For less than $15, your safety is worth every penny. These work great in hotels & vacation homes.
First time on a class field trip to DC and staying in a sketchy area. This product gave me the extra sense of security I needed. It’s super easy to install. Remember to order a 9volt battery! It takes seconds to install in the door and it really works. The alarm sensor is super sensitive and it’s a very loud alarm. Great buy at a great price. It also comes in a cute little carrying case. I will be traveling with it in the future. I slept soundly knowing if someone tried to get in the room, I’d have time to react and be ready. Also, would be a great buy for chaperones worried about teenagers sneaking out, that door alarm works both ways!” – reviewer from USA, 2024.
